The Face Of Eva - Step By Step by WarrenLouw The Face Of Eva - Step By Step by WarrenLouw
The Face Of Eva - Step By Step (2009)

Ive gotta say, her face was definitely the most challenging feature of her. Improvising her facial features really gave me a better understanding of how light hits certain areas of the face given its modeling. Gotta really calculate and visualize these things mentally to get what you want if your not working with much reference.

Anyway, just thought Id share some of the process! Enjoy!

Please be my Sensei!! ^_^
There are so many fantastic ppl registered here.
But I want to learn to do pieces like this. Jus like you.
I can sketch with pencil but have no idea what kinda settings to change in CS3 to do it with my cheapo graphics tablet, not to mention reaching such a beautifully finished ending! All your pieces are breath-taking, dude!
I don't get much time to delve into this kinda stuff (3 kids & working from home takes nearly all my time) but I know that once I learn the process I'd be doing it for years to come!

Any tips for getting an amateur started?

These are wonderful :D Do you do several different layers with the whole locking-ness? I get confused trying to make anything come out nicely, so messy :B

Hi! thanks for sharing this step by step with the audience, it's great! I have a question about the first two steps before you begin to coclour; I was wondering how you get from picture 1 (rough scetch) to picture 2 (fine lines). Do you just erase the rough scetch and draw finer lines or do you draw the fine lines in a new layer and then erase the rough sctech? Or maybe something else?

cheers!

Thanks =) Yup, I lighten that layer and trace over it with a new layer and just turn off the sketchy later.

I'm sorry for asking if this has already been asked and answered already but I dont understand how you cleaned up those lines so well and your placement of shadow and variation in skin tones are just nice. I know your self taught. I am trying to teach myself I know what I intend to do but I just cant seem to make it happen.

I make the rough line art lighter, create another layer on top of it and trace over it with cleaner lines. As for my rendering... a lot of practice and patience. When most would get frustrated and give up, I keep on going and going until I get it the way I want it.
